What you need to know about the Postal Service Health Benefits Program
You may have heard about the Postal Service Reform Act of 2022. This law does not impact your benefits for 2024. But in 2025, there will be a new Postal Service Health Benefits (PSHB) Program. PSHB will offer health insurance to Postal Service employees, retirees and eligible family members starting January 1, 2025. You can learn more on OPM’s website here.
You can also choose to change your coverage but you’ll have to enroll by the end of Open Season.
Information on PSHB Program health plan options and premiums will be available this fall.
All USPS employees and retirees will be automatically moved into the PSHB Program in October 2024.
USPS employees and retirees can make changes to their health plan in the PSHB Program during 2024 Open Season, running November 11 through December 9, 2024.
Here are some important dates to keep in mind:
January 1, 2025:
PSHB coverage begins
Your PSHB coverage begins January 1, 2025.
We will send you a welcome mailer with a new member ID card for each member on your contract.
February 4, 2025:
Thank a Mail Carrier Day
National Thank a Mail Carrier Day is the annual day of appreciation for all hard working mail carriers.

Qualifying Life Event
If you have a qualifying life event (QLE) such as getting married, having a baby or a change in employment status, you might be able to change your health plan outside of Open Season.
